This course is designed to give students an introduction to the Sikh tradition through a historical lens, from its founding by Guru Nanak in the sixteenth century through the present day. The course draws on historical as well as other interdisciplinary approaches to contextualize the development of the Sikh panth (community) and its institutional, political, and diasporic forms. No prior background knowledge of the Sikh tradition is expected or required to take the course.
